I agree with Kristen. Holidays are now such a big deal and it is so much fun. Halloween is probably my most favorite holiday next to Christmas. I love the candy and the costumes. I love scary movies and trick-or-treating. This week started off with our annual pumpkin carving party with our neighborhood friends, the Greenes, the Jungs, the Rubells, and the Burrills. Last year, Ava mostly did the scooping of the insides. This year, she scooped the insides and drew the face on two pumpkins and I did the carving. There were a few too many eyes and a couple of round cut-outs that could have been cheeks, ears, or possibly arms, but they turned out great and were all her own creation.
On Friday, we went to Senya and Ava's school costume parade and party. I am assuming that it is because of the tight economy, or maybe because it is an excuse to be creative, but there were so many cute and original handmade costumes. Look out for some Debbie originals next year. I've been inspired. That night, Ava was invited to join her best boy Terry's trick-or-treating posse. It was wild. South Pasadena residents go crazy on Halloween. Most of the homes had lights, music, fog machines, live ghosts, zombies, graveyards, etc. Ava and crew were too scared to go to some of the doors. Courtney said, and I agreed, that it almost felt like being at Disneyland with the production and the crowds. Fillmore Amigas, you all would have LOVED it!
Happy Halloween!
